Dr. Aubra J. Gantt
Dr. Aubra J. Gantt, the first female Chancellor of Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA), is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana. She began her educational journey at SUSLA as a student, and her career in higher education started at SUSLA as a counselor where she learned one of her passions was to serve students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds. She is a believer in the community college mission because she is a product of a community college.
Dr. Gantt has more than 25 years of progressive experience in postsecondary education, and has served in various state government, academic affairs, student affairs, enrollment management, and clinical behavioral and mental health positions. She held the position of Dean of Enrollment Management at Scottsdale Community College in the Maricopa Community College District, one of the largest 2-year college systems in the United Sates. She is also the founding Vice President for Academic Outreach and Student Success of the Tarrant County College Connect Campus in Fort Worth, Texas, one of the most comprehensive community colleges in the nation. She also served as Registrar at the TCC Northwest Campus for 13 years.
In addition, Dr. Gantt has served in a number of positions at Southern University at Shreveport. She was an Educational Talent Search Counselor with the TRIO programs, where she mentored, advised, and personally counseled talented, but at-risk youth. She has extensive experience developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and workshops for non-traditional students, including career exploration, study skills, and time-management for special populations.
Dr. Gantt holds a Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree from Southern University and A&M College, a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Southern University at New Orleans, and a Doctorate of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of North Texas.
Dr. Aubra Gantt is a dedicated leader with experience and expertise in promoting student success, establishing partnerships with community business and industry, local school districts, and universities, and collaborating with faculty, staff, and the community at large. She has presented globally on how to implement student services on a virtual campus.
Dr. Gantt has successfully kicked off a “Reimagine SUSLA” campaign in order to move the institution forward. Her vision is for Southern University at Shreveport to become the premiere 2-year university and college of choice, striving to excel in academic programs, workforce initiatives, community engagement and student success.
