People at eHBCU
Patrice W. Glenn Jones
Patrice W. Glenn Jones, Ph.D., is a dynamic and visionary leader in online education whose career has taken her from radio broadcasting and high school English classrooms to the forefront of digital learning innovation. As the founding Executive Director of the Division of Online Education and Programs and now Assistant Vice President for Online Education and Global Campus Operations at Alabama State University, Patrice has led efforts to expand the university’s virtual presence and develop a student-centered, technology-enhanced learning ecosystem. She also serves as ASU’s lead representative for the eHBCU Consortium, helping to reimagine online learning across historically Black institutions.
A lifelong educator and self-proclaimed “forever teacher,” Patrice is passionate about building learning environments that are engaging, immersive, and meaningful. Her work centers on the belief that education should be curiosity-driven, emotionally resonant, and unapologetically relevant. She blends experiential learning, human-centered design, and digital innovation to empower students and faculty alike.
Patrice’s influence extends beyond her institution. She is a 2023–2024 American Council on Education Leadership Fellow and a 2023–2024 Propel Center Faculty Innovation Fellow. Her leadership experience includes roles as assistant professor, program director, assistant dean, and educational consultant—giving her a deep understanding of faculty development, academic transformation, and student success.
Her scholarly and thought leadership work has appeared in The Journal of Negro Education, International Journal of Teacher Education and Professional Development, Diverse Issues in Higher Education, and Inside Higher Ed. In October, she will release Vampire Leaders Suck, an allegorical book that explores the damaging effects of toxic leadership in academia.
Patrice holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Florida A&M University, an Ed.S. in Information Science and Learning Technologies from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and both M.A. and B.A. degrees in English from the University of North Florida.
With an unwavering commitment to access, equity, and innovation, Patrice leads with heart, purpose, and vision—fostering growth, challenging norms, and inspiring the next generation of digital learning leaders.
