Southern University at New Orleans offers the only Master of Arts in Museum Studies in the State of Louisiana.  The mission of the department is to educate and train a diverse student population to become professionals and leaders in the museum and arts sectors. FlexU at SUNO offers a 100% online accelerated Master of Arts in Museum Studies.  The program includes a rigorous study of Museology, which is dedicated to the study of the theories, procedures, and managerial concepts of museums. Utilizing a balanced approach between theory and practice, students gain in-depth knowledge about several aspects of the African Diaspora and museum work, including collections management, exhibition design, museum education, audience engagement, digital strategies, and community involvement.  As part of the degree program, students are engaged in applied practice through a required practicum experience in local, regional and national museums, which serve as extended classrooms.
