What is eHBCU?
eHBCU is a national nonprofit consortium of Historically Black Colleges and Universities working together to expand access to high-quality online education, workforce development, and student success opportunities. Through collaboration, innovation, and strategic partnerships, eHBCU helps member institutions increase educational access, strengthen enrollment, and improve student outcomes.
Rather than replacing the unique identity of each institution, eHBCU amplifies the collective strengths of its members by creating shared opportunities that benefit students, universities, employers, and communities.
Is eHBCU an accredited institution?
No. eHBCU is not a degree-granting or accrediting institution. Students enroll in programs offered by accredited eHBCU member institutions. Degrees, certificates, and credentials are awarded by the institution delivering the program, in accordance with its accreditation and academic policies.
Who is eHBCU designed for?

Admissions
What are the application deadlines?
Application deadlines vary by eHBCU member institution and academic program. Many partner universities offer multiple start dates throughout the year to provide flexibility for working adults and nontraditional learners. An Enrollment Coach will help you identify the appropriate institution and upcoming enrollment opportunities.
What are the admission requirements?
Admission requirements are determined by each eHBCU member university and may vary by degree level and program. Generally, applicants may be asked to submit:
- An online application
- Official transcripts from previously attended colleges or universities
- Additional documentation required by the selected institution or program
Your Enrollment Coach will guide you through the admissions process and help ensure all required materials are submitted.
Are transfer credits accepted?
Yes. eHBCU member institutions generally accept transfer credit, although transfer policies differ by institution. Previously earned college credits are evaluated by the receiving university to determine transferability and applicability toward degree requirements. Through innovative course-sharing partnerships, students may also have expanded opportunities to complete degree requirements more efficiently.
Can international students enroll?
eHBCU welcomes students from around the world. International admission requirements vary by institution and may include credential evaluations, English language proficiency requirements, and additional documentation. Our Enrollment Coaches will connect prospective international students with the appropriate university to ensure they receive institution-specific guidance throughout the application process.
Cost & financial aid
What are the tuition rates?
Tuition and fees are established by each eHBCU member institution and vary by university and academic program. Students receive detailed tuition information before enrollment so they can make informed decisions.
Can I receive financial aid?
Many eHBCU member institutions participate in federal financial aid programs for eligible students. U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility. Financial aid options may include grants, loans, scholarships, employer tuition assistance, military education benefits, and other institutional aid, depending on the university.
Are payment plans available?
Many member institutions offer flexible payment plan options to help students manage educational expenses. Availability and terms vary by institution.
Academics
How do online classes work?
Online learning experiences differ across eHBCU member institutions. Depending on the university and program, courses may be:
- Fully asynchronous, allowing students to complete coursework on their own schedule
- Synchronous, with live online instruction
- A combination of both formats
This flexibility allows students to balance their education with work, family, and other commitments.
How long are courses?
Course lengths vary by institution and program. Many online programs offer accelerated terms, while others follow traditional academic semesters or quarters. Your Enrollment Coach will give you the schedule for your specific program and institution.
Who teaches the courses?
Courses are taught by highly qualified faculty members from the eHBCU member institution offering the course. Faculty are experienced educators, scholars, and industry professionals committed to student success.
What diploma will I receive?
Students receive a degree from the accredited eHBCU member institution in which they are enrolled, not from the eHBCU Consortium. The diploma is identical to that earned by students completing the program through traditional on-campus instruction.

What support services are available?
Student success is central to the eHBCU experience. Support services vary by institution but may include:

Can online students participate in campus life?

Technology
What technology do I need?
Most online programs require:
- A reliable computer or laptop (Windows or Mac)
- High-speed internet access
- A current web browser
- A webcam and microphone for courses that include live sessions or proctored assessments
- Software required by your academic program

Is technical support available?
Yes. eHBCU member institutions provide technical support to assist students with the Learning Management Systems (LMS), online course access, university accounts, and other technology-related issues. Support services and hours vary by institution.

Who does my gift support?
Your gift supports the mission and initiatives of the eHBCU Consortium. Contributions help fund programs and services that benefit member institutions and the students they serve, including collaborative academic initiatives, workforce development, technology innovation, student success programming, research, and strategic partnerships. Unless otherwise designated by the donor, gifts are used where they can have the greatest impact across the consortium and its member institutions.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. eHBCU is organized as a nonprofit charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. To the extent permitted by law, contributions are tax-deductible. Donors will receive an acknowledgment for their records. We encourage donors to consult their tax advisor regarding the deductibility of their individual contributions.
